What the hell is the point of the NFL pre-season?

SURELY I'm not the only one that thinks its a giant waste of time?  People say "oh it's for teams to see how guys work together" (isn't that what practice is for?) or to see how rookies are doing (isn't that the ENTIRE reason we have the combine? Or scouting during college??) Plus then other teams are seeing what plays you're thinking about running and what your line ups might be. To top it all off, it seems like teams half ass the games anyway because they don't count for anything lol

Practice is pretty different from the games. I dont care about the preseason personally, but i can understand that coaches want to see how rookies and fringe starters play in real time with a team thats not their own. Some players are just practice heroes and fumble the bag in games. Aside from warming their starters up for the season, evaluating depth, and trying plays out, money/viewership lol.
