My porn hard drive crashed! Best way to recover?
#1
My external hard drive with all my adult entertainment crashed recently. The computer won't read the USB anymore. It was working fine just a few days ago.

Does anyone have advice for the best way to recover.

Thank you.

I found a guy on Craigslist in my hometown who did external drive recovery when I had the same issue as you did

I brought him a new hard drive and the old one and he was able to transfer everything over for me

not sure if that helps you but it's what I was able to do

There are drive recovery kits that are usb.. if you cannot find someone to do it, you can take case apart and use a cable to connect via USB.  there are connections kits for that.

I second DomBacchus, chances are its the enclosure that died.  Google hard drive enclosure (3.5" if its a big drive, 2.5" if its a smaller laptop drive), its fairly easy to take apart enclosures and replace them.  Youtube should have videos for that too.
While there are professionals that will do it, they can be pricey and randos from craigslist might be a risk. Especially since its adult content (not sure what kind but you might not want someone rooting through it).

I've had my old hard drive die on me and I was lucky in recovering most of the data with Recuva software. it won;'t remember any of the paths/folders of your files so if it is recoverable, it'll all be in one folder and that can be a mess.

Yeah spend some time trying to troubleshoot it yourself and learn exactly what the issue is. I am a shit-for-brains when it comes to tech stuff, but after like only half an hour of watching some youtube videos and browsing some forum discussions, i got a basic understanding of hard drives and what the issue with mine was.

No matter what you decide doing - be it sending to a data recovery business, sending it to some dude on craigslist, or trying to buy some tool to recover it - knowing a little bit about what the issue ACTUALLY is can save you a shit ton of money! The data recovery business is RIPE AF and charges out the ass for some fixes, and a lot of it so so fucking simple to fix yourself.

One of my harddrives seemingly died, but after some of that research i learned it was just a circuit board that needed to be fixed. I got quoted for a $500+ fix, but the piece i needed was only $7 fucking dollars shipped. I just asked a friend with a soldering iron to help me set it up and after an afternoon, I had my harddrive fixed up!

Maybe the problem is not in the disk itself, but in the case. If you have an external hard drive in a case, then you can disassemble the case and try to connect it through another case. Or share your porn collection with some kind of data recovery service.

You can try some utilities for data recovery like disk drill.

But I would start by replacing the case
