Barcelona Pjanic: The 'total midfielder' who improves everything around him
#1
Miralem Pjanic wasn't exactly raised in a country known for an endless production line of football talent.
But the Bosnian took refuge in Luxembourg, like a number of his fellow countrymen, and he managed to develop a talent in a country that barely exists on football's map.
Across the French border Metz had been warned that their was a promising youngster coming through, so he signed for the club at 14 and debuted on August 17, 2007 against Paris Saint-Germain.
One season was all he needed to prove his ability, even with Metz struggling.
He's gone on to forge out an impressive career, during which he's had to adapt and alter his position.
The goal that knocked Real Madrid out
Lyon were the first big club to gamble on Pjanic, and wearing their shirt he knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League in 2010.
The midfielder scored at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to eliminate Los Blancos, wearing the No.8 shirt that he had inherited from Juninho Pernambucano.
It was more than the Brazilian's number that he inherited, though, going on to become an expert over a dead ball.
Juninho was clearly a good teacher, as he's now scored more freekicks than anyone in Europe other than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
When Pjanic had outgrown French football he made his move to Italy, initially with Roma.
After doing well in the Eternal City he moved north to Juventus and has picked up trophy after trophy since.
"He's a player who can play in a number of positions," then-coach Massimiliano Allegri said when the player landed in Turin.
"He can play in front of the defence or behind the forwards."
Now, after three Scudetto crowns, Pjanic is set for his biggest challenge yet.
